The collection of books is about 158,000 and 41,000 bound volumes of journals, and a collection of documents, such as patents, standards, technical reports, and pamphlets. The first batch of a degree course in Civil Engineering turned out in 1912 from Pune Engineering College whereas the first batch in Civil Engineering passed out from B.E.College, in the year 1864. The Bengal Engineering College established in the year 1856. The Government Engineering College, Pune established in the year 1854. It is THE SECOND OLDEST ENGINEERING COLLEGE IN INDIA WITH A VERY INTERESTING STORY The Roorkee Engineering College established in the year 1847 AD and recognized as the first Engineering College in India. It was inaugurated by the President of India on 24 August 2014. of West Bengal appointed IIEST Shibpur as the Mentor Institute for Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kolkata, the eleventh addition to the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) family of engineering institutes. In March 2014, it was upgraded to the status of Institutes of National Importance under the banner of Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology, thus renaming it IIEST Shibpur. In 2010 Department of Aerospace Engineering and Department of Applied Mechanics started. The word Shibpur was deleted on 24 March 1921 and it became Bengal Engineering College. On 12 February 1920, the name was changed to Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur. It was Founded on 24th November 1856 with the name of Civil Engineering College.
